The Junior League of Jacksonville has been addressing unmet needs in our community to better the lives of our women and children since 1923.  Over the past nine decades, we have strategically focused our volunteer efforts to address unmet needs in the community and create sustainable programming for significant change and impact.  Among many other endeavors, we founded the Jacksonville Speech & Hearing Center and Family Nurturing Center, and we were instrumental in the founding of the Children’s Museum (now MOSH) and Hubbard House.

Given our history of addressing an issue head-on, it is only natural that we have joined the battle against the issues around food insecurity that our children face today.  Did you know that there are thousands of children in our Jacksonville community that do not know where their next meal will come from?  Many of these children live in food deserts – where it is easier to get a beer than it is to get a banana.  The effects can be lifelong, as recent studies have shown that the lack of access to fresh, healthy foods will likely lead to many chronic health conditions and premature death.  Our Fresh Minds program is dedicated to promoting the availability of healthy food, providing nutrition education, and lobbying our representatives for favorably legislation.  Through its partnerships with other like-minded organizations, the Junior League works to provide over 10,000 volunteer hours in our community, most of which are within our Fresh Minds program.

As part of our Mission, we are committed to training our members to be active volunteers and innovative leaders so the members of the Junior League can, for years to come, continue to be a force for change in our community through service not only in the Junior League but in organizations across the First Coast. We accomplish this by providing leadership opportunities within our organization, and by offering experiences designed to help our members grow their personal, professional, and leadership potential. Not only do we provide instructional and motivational sessions during our meetings, but our members are also presented with new learning opportunities through collaborations with other like-minded organizations in our community, and through participation in national and local conferences and leadership workshops.
